Tommy B. P90X2 Results and Review

Tommy Bicksler P90X2 Results

P90X2 took on the world by storm in December 2011. Myself and a ton of people took the P90X2 Challenge and were looking for amazing results. Personally I lost more than 12 pounds and have never had a stronger core after completing this program. I cut my routine short due to going on the Beachbody Coach Success Club trip to Atlantis, but nonetheless I couldn’t be happier with my P90X2 results. A few of my team members had amazing results and I wanted to share one of them with you. Tommy Bicksler took on P90X2 and dedicated himself to the program and the nutrition while going through this program. Below is his results and review of the P90X2 workout.

Tommy’s P90X2 Results and Review

My P90X2 journey started on December 29th of 2012. I’m almost through my third round of P90X and I had preordered P90X2 and I knew it was on the way. I was just pressing play for yoga and the knock at the door. It’s Fed Ex and he has my box from Beachbody. Now P90X has already changed my life but I had no idea what I was in store for with this. I ripped the box open like a kid a Christmas. Now this was my Christmas to myself so with it being so close I figured I was allowed.

P90X2 Phase 1

P90X2 is a completely different ball game than P90X and why would you expect anything else. It starts out completely different. Phase 1 is all about strengthening your core to get you ready for the rest of these workouts. Something you’ll be very happy you did later. Think your core is strong? I did too, Wrong! All new moves and some of them are hard. Like everything that is new it feels weird and not natural but you will get it. The Phases are set up a little bit differently as well. Each phase is set up to be 3-6 weeks long. As short or long as you feel appropriate for you. No longer than 6 weeks per phase.

P90X2 Equipment

The new equipment is amazing and I really cannot stress this enough, if you are at home and not travelling you will want to have these things! The stability ball is amazing and you will use it just about every day. In the warm up, cool downs, and throughout quite a few of the workouts. Medicine balls, I would suggest having four of these. Probably 2 eight pounds and 2 twelve pounds. You want to be able to do 4 ball push ups don’t you? Yeah, we all do! Onto what will more than likely become your favorite piece of equipment without you even knowing. The rumble roller will change the way you recover and rest forever. This is by far the thing I stress to all of my people. Get a rumble roller. Use it at least once a week no matter what program you are doing. It will help relieve stress, pain, soreness, and I believe it has helped my flexibility as well.

P90X2 Phase 2

Phase 2 for all you P90X graduates will be a lot more of what you are used to. Strength training is back in full force here. Time to step up and “Bring it” here. Phase 2 is pretty straight forward you do have the option here to swap out days with the additional 2 disks, V Sculpt and X Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps. I highly suggest trying the 2 workouts as I thought V Sculpt was really great. I really liked all of them. I actually did four weeks of Phase 2. Two weeks following program and two weeks subbing in the additional workouts.

P90X2 Yoga

Yoga. The dreaded yoga and what people ask me about the most. “Do you do the yoga?” Yes I do. I am a very firm believer that the yoga helps as much as any other day if not more in the whole program. I had never done Yoga before P90X and it is and still what I continue to see the most improvement in. This alone can change the way you feel and train. When your balance, coordination, and flexibility go up you will see improvements in all your workouts. The yoga in P90X2 is much faster and moves much smoother than the original. I think they did this because so many people could not or wouldn’t do the whole workout. This is still a tough day but you have to push yourself and as Tony says here “Enjoy the Journey”.

P90X2 Phase 3 – P.A.P

Phase 3 is very much different than anything else here. This is as they put it making a complete athlete. P.A.P. Upper and Lower. Post-Activation Potentiation is what the P.A.P. stands for. This phase is cutting edge techniques. This is designed to crush even the healthiest of athletes. It is rough when you first go at these two workouts. I mean they’re designed to literally blast you. Only problem with this phase is that it is only the two workouts twice a week. Now you do see significant improvement because you are just repeating the two workouts. Only thing is that for me after three weeks I wasn’t excited about pushing play. My next go around here I’m going to modify phase 3 a little bit to hold my interest. It sounds like I didn’t like Phase 3 but I really did enjoy it and the 1st time through the program I highly suggest you follow the program guide.

P90X2 Nutrition

Now about my nutrition, this is always the first and most common asked question. My biggest suggestion here would be to follow the nutrition guide. Read it, study it, and know it. Shakeology completely changed what I thought was already a very good diet. This is Beachbody’s number one product. It really is an amazing meal replacement shake. Most have it for breakfast which is what I did mostly. Shakeology is a meal replacement with 23 vitamins and nutrients and over 70 ingredients including super foods you will not find anywhere else.

As a whole I truly loved P90X2 and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Whether you are a P90X graduate looking for a new challenge or someone ready to make a change. This is the program for you. I have seen amazing results with this. While doing this I had a Tough Mudder coming up right at the end of my last recovery week. March 31st and 3 days after my 34th birthday. Because of P90X2 I crushed it and hit one of my major goals this year. Qualifying for the World’s Toughest Mudder. I qualified which means my time was in the top 5% from that day of what is a lot of people. Are you ready to step up your game or just ready for a life change. Minor Changes Made to Shakeology Formula

As you know, we’re constantly looking for ways to make Shakeology even better—and help even more people achieve their goals and live healthy, fulfilling lives.

To that end, we’ll be removing TWO ingredients from the Chocolate and Greenberry formulas to satisfy our standards of excellence and improve your reach—blue-green algae and suma root.

Read below to find out why and rest assured, both Chocolate and Greenberry will be just as delicious as always.
Please note: Neither blue-green algae nor suma root can be found in the Tropical Strawberry formula, so no changes there! You’ll be able to spot the changes by looking at the list of ingredients on the back of one of your next shipments. If suma root and blue-green algae are not listed, then you received an updated bag.

Blue-Green Algae Removed from Supergreens Blend in Chocolate and Greenberry Shakeology.

Due to future concerns about the ability to source blue-green algae in a way that ensures its purity, it is being removed from all Shakeology formulations. Additionally, while blue-green algae is a widely recognized dietary supplement ingredient in the United States, many countries around the world are still evaluating its status for supplement and food use. Because of our intention to make Shakeology available in Canada and other countries worldwide, the removal of blue-green algae from the formula will allow us to more easily register Shakeology for sale in these other markets.

It’s important to note that similar health benefits derived from blue-green algae are also found in various other nutrients in our formula such as spirulina, as well as the other supergreens and grasses which contain protein, vitamins, and minerals for energy, digestive, cognitive, immune, anti-aging, and mood support.

Suma Root Removed from the Adaptogen Herb Blend in Chocolate and Greenberry Shakeology

The World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) and the National Football League (NFL) updated their list of nationally banned substances to encompass a group of all-natural phyto-chemical compounds known as ecdysteroids, found in various plants around the globe, including suma root.

Because current drug-screening technologies are unable to differentiate between natural, healthy substances and synthetic banned substances, the ecdysterone found in suma root could result in a false positive test reading. With the growing popularity of Shakeology amongst high performance athletes, the military, and other customer groups subject to testing, we have chosen to exclude it from all Shakeology formulations.

Tai Cheng Workout Review

Tai Cheng reviewTai chi has long been practiced by Asian cultures to help them improve their health as well as their physical and mental condition. The discipline and the movements of this program have been integrated into Tai Cheng, a new fitness program that has been designed to be a more intense form of Tai chi. This article is a Tai Cheng review to give you an idea on what this program is about.

What is Tai Cheng?

This is the latest fitness program introduced by Beachbody, one of the most well-known fitness companies today. This program was created by Dr. Mark Cheng, a martial arts master trainer who also works as a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and a physical therapist. According to a Dr. Mark Cheng, he designed the program based on his background in martial arts and traditional medicine in order to come up with a system which, while low-impact, will help people get into shape.

This fitness program runs for 13 weeks. Each session will start with a warm-up session. Afterwards, you will be taught a new move. New moves will be taught to you daily, and these will build up as you progress through the program in the next weeks. These exercises have been specially chosen in order to challenge your body, improve your metabolism, improve your posture, and improve your mood and overall well-being.

“I’ve tried basically everything under the sun . . . I had an incredible experience. Each week, it kept building. I’m just a normal person that tried this and it worked for me.”—Jeff J.

What are the benefits offered by the Tai Cheng program?

Tai Cheng offers a lot of benefits to individuals.

These include:

    • Exercises are low-impact. This program is based on tai chi, a type of discipline that uses low-impact movements to help people get fit. Tai Cheng stays true to tai chi in this regard, as the movements in this program are low-impact. As such, those who are recovering from injuries or are not used to strenuous physical activity can go on this program to help them achieve better health. What’s more, this also puts you at less risk of getting injured while exercising, something that is a constant danger for those who are doing strenuous exercises.
    • Exercises can be done by just about anyone. If the Tai Cheng movements in this program aren’t low-impact enough to convince you, you might also be interested to know that this program has been designed for just about anyone, regardless of their age or physical condition. In fact, Tai Cheng has different levels so that you can select the level that best suits your physical condition. As such, Tai Cheng is a great fitness program for you, regardless of whether you’re someone who will be trying out a physical fitness program for the first time or if you’re someone who is already physically fit and just want to go on a program that will help you keep in shape. Even those who haven’t exercised in a long time can find themselves getting back on the groove if they get started on Tai Cheng.
    • Doesn’t leave room for boredom. One of the reasons why people end up dropping their fitness program is not because they didn’t experience any health benefits while on the program, but because they actually grew bored and tired of the routine. What’s great about Tai Cheng is that it introduces something new on a daily basis, which means that you can look forward to incorporating something different in your workout in each session.
    • Improves overall health. Tai Cheng gives your body an overall workout. Don’t let the fact that it’s low-impact fool you into thinking that this won’t do anything for your body. Not only can this help you lose weight and tone your muscles, it can also help improve your strength, balance, and flexibility as well. It even helps you get better posture. It can promote joint alignment as well, which can mean that you can finally say goodbye to the aches and pains of your joints.
    • Helps improve your mental skills. Tai Cheng isn’t just about improving your physical health, it can also improve your mental skills as well. Like tai chi, Tai Cheng also helps improve your focus. This in turn can help you take control of your emotions so that you will feel less stress and become more confident about yourself.
    • Helps people lose weight. It’s not just the physical movements that will help people lose weight while on this program. Tai Cheng can also improve metabolism, which means that your body will have a better ability in burning the fat in your body.
    • Can be done just about anywhere. You don’t have to be at the gym to do the exercises in the program. You can do these exercises practically wherever you may go, whether you’re at home or even outdoors.

Tai Cheng vs Tai Chi

Tai Cheng  does more than just improve your physical health, it improves your overall well-being as well. What’s more, since this can be done by just about anyone and everyone, you don’t have to worry about this program not being the right fit for you given your physical condition. You can even get your whole family involved if you want your entire brood to get fit with you. Tai Cheng may not be the most conventional type of fitness program out there, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work. In fact, judging by the reviews made by those who have tried out this program as well as the long history of tai chi in helping people get fit and healthy, you can be sure that Tai Cheng will be a great choice for you in helping you get fit, both physically and mentally.

What are Macronutrient Ratios and Which to use with Beachbody Workouts

Macronutrient RatiosLet’s face it, you have been pushing play and going hard at your Insanity or P90X workouts. Yet you just aren’t seeing the results you were expecting. The first thing we need to do is look at your nutrition and what exactly you are putting in your mouth. Your overall results will come from your nutrition so we need to get a handle on it right from the beginning. What I have learned is even though you may be getting the right amount of calories, that sometime isn’t enough. It comes down to what kind of calories you are eating in terms of Protein, fat and carbohydrates.

First we need to determine your goals with your program. Whether it be weight loss, weight gain, fat cutting or muscle building you will need to fine tune what you eat.

The USDA recommends that based on a 2,000 calorie diet, you would need 91 grams of protein, 65 grams of fat and 271 grams of carbs which breaks down to 18% protein, 29% fat and 53% carbs. (20-30-50) However if you are looking to cut down on fat 30% fat maybe to high for you.

A recommended starting point would be to go with a ratio like 30-20-50. (Protein – Fat – Carbs) We have raised the protein level here to burn more fat and feed the muscles based on the fact that we are now working out. You don’t want to lose muscle while losing fat, losing muscle can lower your metabolism.

Since you’re reading this, you probably want to know the best macronutrient ratio to get rid of extra fat.

We know that each individual is unique, but this is also true for our individual physiology and metabolic rate. Even though, we need to understand that there is no “one size fits all” ratio that will allow everyone to get rid of extra fat.

However, there ARE some general rules that can be used for most people who want to get rid of extra fat and have long-term fat loss.

What Are Used in some Beachbody programs:

P90X

Phase 1 50-30-20 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)
Phase 2 40-40-20 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)
Phase 3 50-30-20 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)

P90X2

Phase 1 50-25-25 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)
Phase 2 30-40-30 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)
Phase 3 25-50-25 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)

Insanity

40-40-20 (Protein – Carbs – Fat)

How do we Convert Percentages to grams?

Once you have determined the macronutrient ratios you will be using, you can easily calculate how many grams of each macronutrient you should be eating. We first need to figure out how your calorie needs per day with your workout. You can use the “Caloric Needs Calculator” with your Free Team Beachbody account here.

Caloric Needs Calculator

daily calories x percent protein / 4 calories per gram = grams protein
daily calories x percent fat / 9 calories per gram = grams fat
daily calories x percent carbs / 4 calories per gram = grams carbs
For example, if your daily calorie needs are 2000 calories and you choose proportions of 30% protein, 20% fat and 50% carbohydrates:

2000 x .30 / 4 = 150 grams protein
2000 x .20 / 9 = 44 grams fat
2000 x .50 / 4 = 250 grams carbs

What Macronutrient Ratios should I use?

People looking to add a lot of muscle will generally go with a ratio like 40-20-40. (Protein-Fat-Carbs)
People looking to add weight would use a ratio like 30-15-55. (Protein-Fat-Carbs)
Those looking to cut down their fat percentage may do something in the range of 35-20-45. (Protein-Fat-Carbs)

There are different levels for each of the macronutrient percentages and we need to see where exactly they fall so for the purposes of our discussions, let’s clarify what we mean when we’re talking about high, medium and low carbohydrate, macronutrient percentages.

Carbohydrate definitions:
Very high carb = 65- 70% +
High carb = 55-60%
Moderate carb = 40-50%
Low carb = 25-35%
Very low carb (ketogenic) = about 5-15% or 30-70 grams per day

Protein definitions:
Very high protein = 41-50%+
High protein = 31-40%
Moderate protein = 25-30%
Low protein = 15-24%
Very low protein = less than 15%

Fat definitions:
Very high fat = 40% +
High fat = 30%-39%
Moderate fat = 20-29%
Low fat = 10-19%
Very low fat = less than 10%

How do I Track My Macronutrient Ratios?

What I use is My Fitness Pal. There you can track everything to fine tune your nutrition. It’s a free service, you can create an account by clicking here. Once you log in you can click “Goals”, then click “Change Goals”, Select “Custom” and click “Continue”, here we can set our overall calorie intake goal, as well as the Macronutrient Ratios we want to hit. Once you have it set where you want click the “Change goals” button to save. Now when you enter food in the journal you can see where you stand.

*Tip – One helpful tip for me was to enter my food the day before, this makes it much easier to tweak and fine tune your nutrition. You can plug in food you may eat and edit and add as you need to hit your set goals.

Macronutrient Final Thoughts

This may seem like to much work for you, but I can tell you after pushing play everyday to a program like Insanity you are gonna want to make sure you are eating the right ratio’s. It’s far to hard of a workout not to see results. Want results? Do your nutrition the RIGHT WAY!

The Beachbody Coach Sharing Cycle | Share Don’t Sell

Beachbody Coach Sharing CycleThe Beachbody Coach opportunity has been an amazing for me and my family. But part of being a Beachbody Coach is knowing how to “Share” the opportunity and the products. Think about it…when you see a great movie don’t you want to tell all your friends and family about it? Telling them, have you seen “Such and such” movie, you have got to go see it! That is how “sharing” works. The same goes for most people who have gone through one of the Beachbody workout programs or the meal replacement shake Shakeology. For me it started with P90X (Shakeology hadn’t came out yet), I would simply tell people how I lost my weight and got in shape with the program. This usually would peak some interest as most people have seen the P90X infomercial. People (like yourself I’m sure) will be much more receptive to sharing than to selling.

Beachbody has implemented a Beachbody Coach Sharing Cycle to make this easy to do for new and veteran Coach’s. This is so important and can make the difference in growing or killing your business.

The Beachbody Coach Sharing Cycle: FIND

Insanity vs. Insanity: The Asylum

Insanity vs AsylumA workout with the word insanity in it would be intimidating enough. Add asylum after it, and you may think it is some sort of torture propaganda. Beachbody offers some of the most intense at home fitness programs on the market and both of these Insanity workouts are on that list.

Unless you are familiar with Shaun T, you may not be aware of his two powerful workouts programs. Shaun is a professional choreographer and dancer who contributed to the at home fitness market with Hip Hop Abs and Rockin’ Body. Subsequently, he released Insanity in 2009 and The Asylum in 2011.

Both of these programs are designed for people who are accustomed to more advanced fitness programs or cardio intense workouts.

What is the difference between Insanity vs. Insanity: The Asylum?

Let me start by telling you that both of these workout programs will produce fitness results faster that you thought possible. Shaun will leave you with more stamina, power, agility, and strength after each workout.

However, there are differences in the goals and methods with each DVD set.

Insanity Workout:

Insanity does not use weights or other tools, but instead focuses on cardio conditioning using your own body weight and resistance. To do this workout, all you need is a towel, water, and an ambitious mind-set.

Here are some of the main components:

  • 60-Day Program
  • Ten Workouts
  • Advanced Plyometrics
  • Power Moves and Strength Training
  • Abdominal and Core Workouts
  • Max Interval Training (Short periods of intensity, with short periods of rest)
  • Elite Nutrition Guide and Calendar

Insanity comes with a total of 11 workouts (10 if you order elsewhere). The 63 day Insanity workout schedule is designed to get you in the best shape in the shortest amount of time.
Once you get through Insanity once or twice, step up your fitness level with The Asylum.

Insanity: The Asylum:

The Asylum goes beyond cardio intensity and presents sport-specific training and drills designed for elite athletes.

I recommend starting with Insanity first. The Asylum is an advanced fitness program, period. There are no modifications for beginners. If you graduated from Insanity or other advanced programs like P90X, you are probably ready for The Asylum.

Here are the main components of The Asylum:

  • 30-Day Workout Program
  • Seven Workouts
  • Sports Progression Drills
  • Agility drills using the Agility Ladder
  • Speed Rope for foot work
  • Option to add weights
  • 14-Day Meal Plan

Asylum comes with a total of 7 different workouts in a 30 day workout schedule.
The Asylum adds power, agility, strength, balance, and coordination to the cardio endurance that Insanity brought.

P90X2 Journey Week 10 Update | Days 64 – 70 | Phase 3

P90X2Begin week 10. This is my start to week 10 and it hardly seems like I have been at it that long. I guess that’s what an all new program will do for you. I am really enjoying the P90X2 workout program and at the same time I’m looking forward to finishing. Next week will be my final week. So I will only be completing 77 days. Upon my return from the Bahamas I’m thinking of jumping back into 30 days of Insanity. Back to the task at hand. This week I will continue to push myself through these PAP workouts. I’m feeling big improvement and can’t wait to get going.

Day 64 – P.A.P. Lower – Already getting better and better at Lower PAP. This was my 3rd time doing it and I really feel like I go for it and only take a few very small breaks before jumping back in at full speed.

Day 65 – P.A.P. Upper – The only part of today’s routine I struggle with is the first move, Push up rows. The cast does these so much faster than I do I can’t keep up so I just stop when they reach their 10th rep. I’m usually at 7 or 8 when they hit 10. Other than that I keep up very well with the cast. I also think I’m at the right weight for now, but may try to up it over the next few times.

Day 66 – Softball Game – Feeling a little run down. I scheduled to do the X2 Ab ripper but decided against it knowing I had a softball game in the evening.

Day 67 – PAP Lower – This is my 4th time with PAP lower and it’s still a beast. It’s not much to look at on paper but when you get done you will feel the effects for a good while afterwards. I was a little unmotivated today, so thanks to my Challenge Group for pushing and supporting me to push through. You don’t have to do it alone. Contact me if you want to join our Challenge Group.

Day 68 – PAP Upper – These PAP workouts continue to kick my butt. I am still impressing myself everyday with how I’m improving. Today I help almost the entire hold sets in each complex. With all the shaking going on I was able to hold the moves. Next week will be my last week of P90X2 do to going on the Atlantis trip the following week.

Day 69 – Softball Double Header

Day 70 – OFF

Week in Review:
10 weeks in the books already, it seems like this has flown by. I have done very well with my workouts these last few weeks but on the diet side not so much. I do great on my diet during the week but it seems when I get to the weekend my will power weakens. Some of this is probably due to being almost done and knowing I will be away for a week in the Bahamas very soon. I have 10 days until we leave so I will try to nail the diet until we leave. Stay tuned.
