It’s becoming a trend for Team Beachbody to release an all new program in December. Last year was the all new How long does it take for prednisone to workwhich was to date one of my all time favorite programs to go through. One of the top reasons I liked P90X3 was for the shorter 30 minute workouts. I remember thinking last year how nice it would be if Insanity was restructured to a 30 minute program like P90X3. Well, someone at Team Beachbody headquarters was definitely listening and began tooling with the notion to renew Insanity with Shaun T and cut it to 30 minute workouts. This December we are introduced to the all new INSANITY:MAX30.
Just to be clear this is not Insanity cut down to 30 minutes, it’s an entirely new type of Insanity, with new moves and a new structure style. But don’t fret, Shaun T is at the helm and says this program is insane and possibly more difficult than Insanity. But only time will tell if that is true for myself.
Differences Between Insanity and Insanity Max:30
Time: This is a given, the new Insanity Max will have 30 minute workouts where Insanity workouts range between 25-60 minutes.
Workout Structure: When I did Insanity we have the “insane” 10 minute warm up which ran into the 3-5 minute stretch routine, once we finally got into the workout we were doing 4 different moves for 30 seconds with a 30 second break. During Insanity Max you can expect a much shorter warm up and water break before getting into it. When we begin the workout we will be doing 3 moves at 30 seconds each for 4 rounds.
Strength Training: Insanity incorporated the strength moves into the workouts so there was no real “strength workout” alone. The Insanity Max 30 program introduces Team Beachbody to Tabata workouts. Tabata is not new but this is the first we are seeing it inside a Beachbody program. The basic design of a tabata workout in Insanity Max is that we will 8 sets of 20 seconds on/10 seconds off. You can find 4 minute tabata workouts on youtube to try out, believe me they are insane and it’s no surprise that it’s Shaun T bringing these into the Insanity Max program.
Modifier: If you have been through Insanity you know that just about the entire Insanity cast is great shape and really goes for it in each workout. If you look close enough you’ll even find many cast members doing the moves incorrectly. While in Insanity: Max 30 we now have a modifier, not only to help those of us who are not in the shape of the cast members but also to ensure we do the moves correctly to avoid injury. They also took this a step further and give you the option to select to see the modified version of each move in the DVD MENU, how cool is that!
Workout Schedule: If you have followed me during my round of Insanity you know one of my biggest complaints was the workouts being too repetitive ( not enough workouts). From the looks of the Insanity Max 30 program we won’t going insane over repetitive workouts (includes 12 workouts). We’ll know for sure once I get my hands on the official Insanity Max calendar.
Goals: When going through Insanity, it mostly feels like it’s you against the cast. Either trying to keep up or trying to do better than them. I had a few workouts that I was able to finally out do the cast. With Insanity Max 30, you are competing with YOURSELF! You’ll go as hard and fast as you can until you “Max out”, and when you need your first break your write down your time, return next week to try to beat your time…BOOM! I can’t wait to see the results from this concept!
