Week 5 is upon us and Day 29 Core Cardio & Balance is the workout. This is the recovery week in the Insanity Challenge Schedule and with it comes Core Cardio & Balance. It’s a little less intense of a workout compared to the Month 1 routines but it will still get that heart rate up. The problem I have with this recovery week is that this is the only workout I will be doing for the entire week (6 days). I’m sure by the end of the week I’ll be ready to get to month 2.
Day 29 Core Cardio & Balance
I knew by the time I got to Day 29 I would want to be able to complete this entire workout without stopping. This routine is less intense and brings a little more breaks into the workout than any of the month 1 workouts. Although most of the breaks aren’t scheduled they are just me waiting around for Shaun T to explain the next move. Nonetheless I completed the entire routine with no breaks. I’d have to say I’d be a little unhappy if I needed a break after the progress I have made this past 4 weeks. I actually like Core Cardio & Balance as one of my favorite Insanity workouts. When I was doing other workout programs and wanted a little bit of cardio I seemed to always come back to this one. Now, doing if six days straight maybe a whole other story. Core Cardio & Balance reminds me of a less intense Pure Cardio, where you do each move for 1 minute and move on to the next move. The hardest part of this workout has to be the hip flexor burners and the shoulder burners. I have never been able to do the entire set of hip flexor burners and today I almost made but dropped out with 5 seconds left. As far as the shoulder burners I’m proud to say I completed the entire set today without a single drop. Shoulder burners is over 3 minutes of shoulder moves without a break. Some of the cast couldn’t even complete the set. As one of my Insanity Challengers stated today ~
“Core and balance done. I think by the end of the week I will be able to fly. Shoulders burning.” – Nathan
Day 29 Core Cardio & Balance Nutrition
It’s day 29 and I decided to switch up my nutrition a tad. I have been on track with hitting my macro-nutrient ratios and calories. What I’m going to be switching up is the timing of said macros. Starting today and going through at least this week I’m going to have my last complex carb at my second snack time, which is usually around 4:00 4:30. My dinner will still have carbs but those from veggies. I want to see if this will have any affect on the scale and my body composition. My breakfast for day 29 was the usual and basic egg whites with a side of whole grain bread. I upped my calories for my first snack of the day which is usually only Shakeology, by adding a banana. For lunch I went with the rice and chicken recipe from the nutrition guide. Another change I’m implementing this week is that I’m trying to do without canned veggies. I’ll be replacing them with frozen steamed veggies instead. At dinner I baked some tilapia with a cup of broccoli and a side of almonds. So far the nutrition changes I have made worked well, but we’ll see in a few days if it creates any problems with my energy levels. I finished today with 1941 calories and my macros at 48-32-20. Stay Tuned!
