I have to admit I was actually looking forward to today’s workout. Day 4 brings me to Cardio Recovery. It’s the one day of Insanity we’re not going with completely insane cardio. I have been using this workout as a leg workout when I wanted a short routine. This one is just over 30 minutes so it’s get in, get out, get on with your day.
Day 4 Cardio Recovery
Like I mentioned before, I like Cardio Recovery for two main reasons. One is it’s short, and the other is that it’s a break from the craziness that is Insanity. However if you are new to Insanity don’t take this one for granted because it will still kick your butt. Instead of crazy cardio now we are doing squats, pulses and holding those squats. I have never been able to complete this workout with the cast as I tend to come out of the hold before they do. My legs screaming at me makes it very hard to hold them. I came into this round with a mission to push myself harder and get out of my comfort zone, which I did today. I’m happy to say that for the fist time I kept up with the cast on ALL the hold moves. I need to improve on the balance portion of the workout since I was a little off today, but that may have been attributed to my legs being tired from me pushing them harder today. Another thing I noticed was my heart rate never really got that high. And on leg days I usually get the heart rate up there pretty quick. My MAX heart rate was only 136 BPM which is insanely low for me. The upside means I’m starting to adapt to the harder workouts and I’m also able to recover much quicker. The downside to this is the calorie burn for today was super low. According to my heart rate monitor I only burned 243 calories…BUMMER. I do have a softball game this evening so I’ll get some extra cardio then.
Day 4 Cardio Recovery Nutrition
My nutrition today was good. I’m staying right on track. I did alter my nutrition goals a tad today on My Fitness Pal. I shifted it to 45-35-20 to make things a little easier for me when I plan my meals. I tried a few recipes last week to see which ones I would like to eat. One of my favorites was the Protein Pizza Muffins (pictured). These little puppies are freaking awesome. I’m not sure it would be wise to have these multiple times per week but once per week is a good idea. Today was the day I planned to have them and they were awesome. For dinner I did the Rice chicken recipe. It’s another good meal at about 300 calories. I like having the variety here and there. Tomorrow I may try some of the Insanity Diet Plan Protein shake recipes. Stay tuned.
