Can You Lose Weight With Body Beast is a common question I get from my team members. From all the marketing of Body Beast, and it’s name you most likely know it was designed to add muscle. Body Beast is designed for individuals to pack on some serious muscle by following the workouts and nutrition guide. But how does it work for those looking to drop weight. Can you lose weight with Body Beast?
Lean or Bulk Beast?
We have established we are looking to lose weight with Body Beast so which Body Beast workout schedule should we follow. At first glance most of my clients jump into Body Beast Lean schedule wanting to drop weight. However if you follow the Body Beast workout and nutrition guidelines and schedule it’s still set up with the first 8 weeks of bulk and will cut for 4 weeks during the Beast phase. For sure you’ll be gaining muscle but won’t really get to those extra pounds you wanted to lose to start with. And that’s just not going to work for weight loss.
Weight loss Via Nutrition
For any Team Beachbody workout program in order to lose weight you’ll need to run a calorie deficit consistently. Of course the different style of workouts will determine the kind of results possible. However it’s not even comparable to where the nutrition will actually get you from the program. So if you’re looking to lose weight with Body Beast you’ll need to run a deficit.
If we take a closer look at the Body Beast Nutrition Guide and its calorie intake calculations we can determine where we can start a calorie deficit.
Step 1:
[100 – BF%]/100 x weight = Lean Body Mass (LBM)
Step 2:
LBM x 10 = Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
Step 3:
RMR x 0.3 = Caloric Modification for Recovery (CMR)
Step 4:
RMR + CMR = Resting Metabolic Rate Modified for Recovery (RMR2)
Step 5:
RMR2 + 600 = Calorie Intake to Maintain Weight (CIM)
Step 5 calories is the amount of calories predicted to burn during a Beast workout. The total from the equation above is the amount of calories you need per day to MAINTAIN your weight. If you goal is to lose weight, and if you’re reading this I assume it is, we need to make some adjustments.
A basic rule of thumb to lose roughly a pound a week you’d need to average a daily 500 calorie deficit. You can set your deficit safely from 500-750 per day. Now we need to look at the macro setting for our goals. If you’re tracking your nutrition, which I recommend for best results, you’ll want to adjust the suggested Body Beast macro of 25-50-25 (Proteins, carbs, fats) to something similar to the P90X suggested macro of 50-30-20 (Proteins, carbs, fats). The 50-30-20 is a high protein diet.
Why Use a High Protein Diet?
High protein diets will do a lot for you. The extra protein will help keep you full and satisfied much longer between meals as you run a deficit. In a nut shell we want to lose weight with Body Beast and the protein to help maintain our muscle mass. And the Body Beast workouts combined with your high protein diet will help accomplish this. And what I consider an added bonus is the protein is ineffective for your body to use as fuel. Your body will have to work overtime to process the extra protein. And people with higher protein diets have been shown burn more calories per day than those without it.
Can’t I Just Do More Cardio? (Insanity)
If you’re running a calorie deficit you will lose weight no matter the workouts you are doing. Just know that the Body Beast workouts are intense and will get your heart rate elevated and the sweat dripping. And while your building more muscle with the beast you’ll in turn burn more calories through out the day.
“The thing about the workouts are that you will be burning calories for the next 36 hours more then any cardio workout… – SK.”

Final Thoughts on weight loss with Body Beast…
As a final thought on the subject I suggest selecting one goal at a time. For instance, weight loss or adding muscle, doing both at the same time will be a really slow process and can be discouraging. Instead, choose one and go for it, I’d suggest getting you your weight loss goal (fat %) and then trying to add mass. Do what really gets you excited for fitness, if that happens to be Body Beast, go for it! If not there are a ton of Team Beachbody programs to choose from and I’m positive there is one for YOU.
