Myth 1: To lose weight you have to do a ton of cardio.
Traditional cardio training only burns fat, but if you were to combine it with some weight training like in P90X
you would double your effects on your weight loss goals. You’ll shed the fat and start to develop lean muscle mass at the same time. This will help you shape and tone much faster. Isn’t your goal to look and feel good as possible? For best results, lift weights and watch what you eat.
Myth 2: To best way to burn fat and calories is with cardio.
We don’t argue that cardio burns a lot of calories but with conventional cardio training you’ll stop burning calories as soon as you stop working out. When you lift weights your body will keep burning calories long after you complete the workout. Some refer to this as the EPOC effect (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption). Which boosts your metabolism and will burn more calories.
Myth 3: Women will bulk up if they lift weights.
You can ask Sagi (Body Beast
Creator) how to get big and he’ll tell you that if you want to get big you have to lift big and eat big while using low reps with heavy weight. You can control how weightlifting effects your body. For example many women will see awesome results by simply lifting a high repetition with a low amount of weight. Adding muscle is crucial is helping boost your metabolism which will maximize your fat loss.
Myth 4: Gym machines are the best for strength training.
No doubt fancy gym equipment is comfortable and shiny but when it comes to performance some machines isolate the muscle. When this happens you lose the combined synergy from your effort. If you were to use barbel weights like in Les Mills Pump
you are forcing your body to use all your muscles to stabilize. This means you are working the muscles that lift the weight and the surrounding muscles including your core and abs. The more muscle you use the more fat you can burn.
Myth 5: Men and women must train differently.
Actually there is no reason why men and women can’t train the same exact way to reach their own personal goals. Both men and women have different levels of hormones which are responsible for your muscle growth. Weight lifting basics like: squats, lunges, curls and dead lifts are some of the best exercises for everyone. Weightlifting will help you reach you best physical goal whether man or woman.
I hope this helps shed some light on these myths you have probably heard before. One thing to take away from this is that you’ll want to combine some type of resistance in your workouts. Even in the Insanity workout, Shaun T has you doing resistance power moves to get the best results from your workout.
