Pure Cardio Review | Insanity Workouts Review

Pure Cardio is considered by many as one of the hardest month one workouts. I can agree but at the same time I think this is the funnest workout of month one. What I really like about this workout is there are no repeat moves. You begin with your usual Insanity warmup of 10 minutes (3 sets) and followed by the stretch portion of the routine.

As we are stretching Shuan T makes a statement that I have to say worried me the first time I heard him say it. He says “…I have to be totally honest that I am really nervous about this workout…” Seriously, this is day 3, day one and two kicked my butt already and NOW your nervous, great what am I in for I say to myself. Beware of P90X & Insanity Workout Video Scam! | Don’t Get Ripped Off

The owners of the company Beachbody, which sells the popular P90X workout videos, are in Washington DC lobbying for the government to shut down a Chinese piracy scam.

Seattle – You have probably seen the late night infomercials for P90X, an intense three month home workout plan. It promises results in 90 days, with a 13 DVD set, nutritional guide and workout calendar.

Q13 FOX News reporter Dana Rebik wanted to get in shape after having her baby late last year and decided to go online and buy the DVD’s. On the “Beachbody” website, the company that produces P90X, it sells for around $119 plus $19 shipping. Dana found another website, “P90Xpopular.com” promising all the same DVD’s and fitness guides for $53.99.

The website looks legitimate so Dana entered her credit card number and placed the order. When she never got the DVD’s she tried to get a hold of customer service. There was no phone number to call, only the option to send an email. She did get a response, telling her to enter the order number on a website called “Worldwide Express Mail Service” out of China. That didn’t work.

Dana’s credit card did get charged by a company called BJLZE Ltd., a shoe store in Shenzhen, China.

“Websites that come up in China and former Soviet countries are rampant and we literally take out hundreds of websites every single week and unfortunately hundreds of new ones pop up,” says Jonathan Gelfand, senior VP of business development for Beachbody.

Gelfand says the P90X piracy problem is so bad he is in Washington DC this week working with Congress and the Chinese government to shut these sites down.

“We want significant jail time and financial penalties to really let people know there is a price to pay if you get caught doing piracy,” says Gelfand.

Gelfand says many times when the fake sites send DVD’s, they either don’t work or are discs that when inserted into a computer will steal personal information like bank passwords. Gelfand says many times the people running the piracy scams are criminals and/or terrorists.

Dana ended up ordering P90X again on the real Beachbody website. Her bank refunded her money.

The Better Business Bureau of Washington says it hasn’t heard of this particular scam but did check out the fake website for us and here is some feedback:

1. In their rules and regulations, there are many grammatical and spelling errors. This is common for over-sea transactions; meaning, you’re most likely dealing with a company located outside the US.

2. They have no rules and/or guarantees that are explained in detail on the product you receive or intend to receive. Instead, they use words like “usually”.

3. There is no contact information. You must submit your contact information for them to contact you.

4. Their URL is not a “https://” URL. The difference between ‘http’ and ‘https’ is the ‘s’ which means ‘secured’. The same rules apply to the yellow lock boxes you see in the bottom left/right hand corners of websites that take personal information.

5. I can’t find anything on a return policy or cancellation policy; only information about what they deny as returned products.

6) Sites like www.ripoffreport.com give consumers a sense of what to expect from businesses, etc. Take it for what it is. Please remember that anyone can post anything on this site, so what you read may or may not be accurate.

Plyometric Cardio Circuit Review | Insanity Workouts Review

Plyometric Cardio Circuit

Insanity Plyometric Cardio CircuitSo we begin the Plyometric Cardio Circuit workout (AKA-Cardio Circuit), we start with a slow pace jog followed by jumping jacks, heisman, 123 heisman, butt kicks, high knees and mummy kicks. We will do 3 rounds of these with each round increasing pace with the third round going all out. Now I’m already soaked with sweat and feel tired, in total it lasts about 10 minutes before Shaun T mentions that this is only the warm-up, WHAT! are you kidding me, I’m just about waisted already. This is why they use the phrase “Dig Deep” because Insanity is just as much a mental workout as it is physical. Next we have a 30 second break followed by a 7 minute stretch which is really thorough. Now we come to another 30 second break. Ok at this point we have done about 18 minutes of a 43 minute workout, so there’s only 23 minutes left…peice of cake right? [Read more...]

60-day Insanity workout brings muscles and more

I was channel-surfing early one morning when images of sculpted bodies working out together caught my attention.

It wasn’t the first time I had seen this Insanity infomercial, but it was the first time I wondered if the person on the screen could be me.

Could this DVD transform my 50-year-old body? I wanted to test the testimonials, and convinced my (eager) 17-year-old daughter Samantha to try it with me.

With the order placed, my first order of business was scheduling a photo shoot to establish my “before” image. This was not pleasant. I look good in clothes. I do not look good in Spandex shorts and a sports bra.

So I don’t know what was more difficult, my “before” photo shoot or the first few days of Insanity workouts.

One advantage of doing Insanity workouts from home is that Samantha is the only person who can see me or hear me struggle. And her struggles look and sound a lot like mine. [Read more...]

Fit Test Review | Insanity Workouts Review

I will be reviewing each Insanity workout and I decided to start with the “Fit Test”, my intensions with each review will be to give you a broad spectrum of what each workout entales.

Fit Test

Insanity Fit TestInsanity comes with a “Fit Test” and unlike P90X the Fit Test is actually part of your workout program. The reason for the fit test is to see where you are as far as your fitness level for Insanity. Now, anybody can do the Insanity workout with enough heart, determination and most of all commitment. You will need to be in decent shape to do the Insanity workout, so if the Fit Test overwhelms you, you may want to back off and do another program and come back to Insanity. Remember Insanity is am extreme workout and it takes time to get at that level. For me personally I have completed P90X and Insanity is still a hard workout for me and I have to pace myself. Starting Insanity my weight was 190-195 and I’m 5’11″. [Read more...]

What Is My Target Heart Rate During My Workout

When I began my Insanity Workout I upgraded my heart rate monitor to one with a chest strap. This is something I highly recommend to get the best accuracy of your heart rate. You will notice even in the P90X workout that Tony Horton recommends a heart rate monitor and asks you to check it often. But, even if you have a heart rate monitor do you know your target heart rate? I pay really close attention tp my heart rate mnaking sure I’m not “dogging it” as Tony says. With your Free Team Beachbody account you can view your taret heart rate zone in the fitness tools section. All you need to enter is your age and sex. The calculator will do the rest.

Your target heart rate is a range of beats per minute that helps you determine if you’re exercising at the right intensity. If your pulse is too low, you won’t get the maximum benefit from your workout; if it’s too high, you won’t be able to train as long.

This calculator will give you suggested heart-rate ranges for various workout levels, based on your age and gender. Keep in mind that these are general numbers—different people may have different ranges. As you become very fit, you’ll be able to handle higher heart rates for longer periods of time.

The picture below is from the Team Beachbody Target Heart Rate Calculator. This is my personal targets zones. During Insanity I try to stay in the minimal side of the threshold and average the aerobic zone.

Target Heart Rate

Why is monitoring your heart rate important?
Many Team Beachbody workout programs are meant to take you through the correct heart-rate ranges automatically, from Recovery (for warming up and cooling down) through Aerobic (for extended cardio) through Threshold (for “extreme” workouts).

But it still helps to know your personal target ranges—especially if you’re doing a continual cardio exercise where it’s easy to alter the intensity. It’s also important to know for interval training, in which you work out at a high intensity for a short time, then have a low-intensity recovery period.

A target heart-rate zone is a certain percentage of your maximum heart rate (Max HR), the highest number of times your heart can beat in one minute. Because the zones vary quite a bit from person to person, you can also decide what zone you’re in by the “perceived exertion” of an exercise. If you’re breathing a little hard but can talk easily, you’re probably in the Healthy Heart Zone. If you’re breathing very hard and can’t talk well, you’re probably in the Aerobic Zone. And if you can only gasp one word at a time, you’re probably in the Threshold Zone.

Heart Zones

Zone Name Percentage of Max HR Perceived Exertion Difficulty
Z1 Healthy Heart Zone 50%-60% 2-5 (perceived exertion)
Z2 Temperate Zone 60%-70% 4-5 (perceived exertion)
Z3 Aerobic Zone 70%-80% 5-7 (perceived exertion)
Z4 Threshold Zone 80%-90% 7-9 (perceived exertion)
Z5 Redline Zone 90%-100% 9-10 (perceived exertion)

In the lower zones, you can train for longer periods of time. But, as you move up to higher-intensity zones, you need to decrease the amount of time that you spend at those levels, particularly in the top two (the Threshold and Redline Zones). Overdoing it increases the likelihood of injuries or burnout.
