Day 37 did not turn out they way I had planned. I woke up today with a bad headache in addition to being very sore from yesterday’s workout. I had the pleasure of tackling the workout called Max Interval Plyo. The name alone suggests that I’m going to die inside of an hour. I’m not a big fan of plyo with past my past back issue but I knew coming into the Insanity challenge that there would be a ton of it. As Shaun T says “I’m not trying to hurt you, only trying to make you better…”
Day 37 Max Interval Plyo
As I mentioned before I woke up with a bad headache on Day 37. By the time I started my workout it had actually got worse. I tried to push through hoping it would subside but it only seemed to get worse. I made it through one circuit of the warm up before I quit. There was no way I was going to able to do an entire Max workout that way. I stopped the workout and drink my daily Shakeology, used the P90X2 rumble roller on my neck and drank some more water trying to get this headache to go away. It was about 2 hours later when I tried to push play again and this time the headache was gone. I started this workout very sore from yesterday, mostly my lats were sore from the push up moves on day 36. This workout had me on many occasions “flicking off” the TV screen saying “you’ve got to kidding”. The best thing about this workout is that it’s short…only 55 minutes.
Max Interval Plyo has a ton of emphasis on the legs in the first circuit alone we do 4 moves with the last move in the set being Power Jumps…seriously! As if I wasn’t dead already. The second circuit we start to do a little more floor work as in push ups. Jumping push ups are now my new favorite move, pick up on the sarcasm? And then Shaun T introduces us to the wonderful Level 3 drills. I broke down the differences each level below. After we complete the first 2 circuits we go into what is called “power moves” for the last 8 or so minutes of the workout. There are 4 of these moves we do in succession and they are: Side Push Ups, Kickstand Touch the Floor, 8 Power Knees/4 Diamond Jumps, and Balance Push Ups. And yes these are at the end of the Max workout. These Max workouts are no joke and I’m starting to wonder if I’ll survive the next 30 days of this craziness. I’m doing my best and forgetting the rest, but it’s becoming a sweaty mess.
Level 1 Drills: Down, back 4 push ups, 8 knees
Level 2 Drills: Down, back, 8 push ups, 8 knees
Level 3 Drills: Down, back, 16 push ups, 16 knees
Day 37 Max Interval Plyo Nutrition
Started day 37 with my most common breakfast to date in the way of egg whites with whole grain bread. After getting that really bad headache I didn’t even know if I could get the workout in at all so I scrambled around to adjust my nutrition on the fly. As you know I was able to do the workout which makes things easier for me. Because of the switch around I went with something easy for lunch which was a deli sandwich. My dinner was a mess, in trying to meet my macro-nutrient ratio’s I must have plugged in about 6 different things into My Fitness Pal trying to get the right amounts. In the end my dinner consisted of baked tilapia with a side of broccoli and I then added some grilled chicken to add more protein and an apple. That was the weirdest dinner I have had in this Insanity Challenge. I finished day 37 with a total of 2019 calories and my macro’s at 46-35-19. Stay tuned.
