What To Do After P90X

You’ve busted your butt these past 90 days to get the body you’ve always wanted.  Don’t Stop Now!  Don’t fall into an easy trap of letting your gains slip away.  You work is NOT over.  Now, you do not need to perform a extreme workout sereis the rest of your life, but you should continue some sort of fitness regimen.  Below I will show you 2 workouts designed fo the P90X Grad!

What I have done is P90X in multiple rounds.  My first time through P90X I did the “Lean version” so my second go through I did the Classic with a little modifications.  I added some of the P90X+ workouts to my regular scedule.   I had great success with P90X and love the workouts.  I am currently waiting ont he release of the newest Extreme workout from Beachbody Called INSANITY. (Releasing in July)

Another way to continue is to do so with P90X+. P90X+ was created by the same fitness instructor of P90X, Tony Horton. P90X+ is not for beginners and you should have completed at least on round of P90X before going to P90X+.

Whats P90X+?

Tony Horton takes muscle confusion to the next level. Break through plateaus with more cardio, more body chiseling, and ab ripping moves. Variety is the key.

P90X+ Comes with 5 New workouts

Kenpo Cardio Plus
-This concentrated cardiovascular routine is inspired by the American Kenpo self defense disipline. Get ready for a fast paced all out session that will improve your stamina, ability and agility. Experiance new moves like “The Gladiator” for more fun than should be good for you.

Total Body Plus
-Every body part into the pool! Nothing is spared as Tony takes your entire body through sculpting, strengthing and just plain shredding sets. Each muscle group will takes turns recuperating while you blast another until you’ve got nothing left but quivering muscles.

Interval X Plus
-An extraordinary effective roller coaster of fat burning cardio moves takes each move through low/medium/high intensity. Plusyou’ll strengthen and sculpt your lower body for more power and performance.

Abs/Core Plus
-This unique routine sculps your core to condition your entire midsection while delivering washboard abs. You’ll switch it up with hanging, plank, standing and floor work.

Upper Plus
-You won’t just max out one or two muscle groups in this intense workout- your whole upper body is coming along for the ride: arms, back, chect, shoulders, delts, biceps, triceps, you name it! No boredom or repitition here, just a full throttle battle for upper body supremacy!

These workouts are mapped out for you. And you will combine them with the P90X workouts to make what’s called a hybrid workout. 3 Versions are included as with P90X, Classic, Lean and doubles.

Think you can handle P90X+….BRING IT!

Cheapest Place to Purchase P90X

Where is the cheapest place to purchase P90X?

There are only two places you should even consider purchasing P90X. To many people are buying P90X on ebay and getting pirated copies that do not come with the guides and are prone to skipping, not to mention coming with all the dvd’s. Do yourself a favor and purchase P90X from an official reseller also called a Beachbody Coach.

Beachbody is the parent company to P90X. So here are the best places to purchase P90X. One would be to get it directly from Beachbody at beachbody.com. Another would be to purchased from a P90X official reseller, known as a Team Beachbody Coach.

Why buy from a Team Beachbody Coach?

When you purchase P90X you will receive everything that P90X is suppose to come with, all the guides, calendars, workout sheets and Tony Hortons Bring it video. Plus you can upgrade your order to include the pull-up bar, resistance bands and recovery drink.
You will SAVE on shipping when you purchase through a Coach. While you pay a flat rate of $19.95 at Beachbody.com, through a Coach you will only need to pay roughly $7 and some change.
Probably the best thing about purchasing through a Beachbody Coach, is you get a support and motivation tools at Team Beachbody.com and your own Personal Coach to help you with any issues you may have while working out with P90X, such as what supplement to take, motivation and personal accountability.

What’s Needed To Do The P90X Workout

Probably the most frequently asked question about P90X.

What’s needed to do the P90X workouts, that does’nt come with the program?

P90X is one of the best selling in home workout videos for a reason. IT WORKS!! But something people like to know is what they need to get in order to do the workouts.

I will break down what you have to have and what is recomended.

What You Have To Have:

1.)Pull-Up Bar or a place to do Pull-Ups

P90X Chin up Bar

2.)A set of dummbells or a set of resistance bands

P90X Resistance Bands

That is it, but that is the bear minimum.

What Is Recomended (in addition to above items):

1.)Yoga mat

P90X Yoga/Plyo Mat

2.)Yoga Blocks

P0X Yoga Blocks

3.)Heart Rate Monitor

Heart Rate Monitor

4.)Push-Up Bars

P90X Push Up Bars

5.)P90X Results & Recovery Drink
P90X Recovery Drink

6.)P90X Peak Performance Protein Bars
P90X Bars

7.)P90X Peak Health Formula
P90X Formula

Now I know thats a lot of things, but I do suggest you have at least these four items:
1.)Pull up Bar
2.)Resistance Bands/Dumbbells
3.)Yoga Mat
4.)P90X Recovery Drink

You need these 4 items to get the most out of P90X. You will be doing a lot of pull ups in P90X so the pull up bar is a must (unless you have a way to do them). Every resistance workout with P90X show the workout done with resistance bands and dumbbells, so you can use one or the other here. You can get away without the yoga mat, however on the days you do Yoga X, Stretch X and Ab ripper X there is a lot of floor work, and if you do not have a well cusioned floor you miss not having one. Now, the Recovery Drink, to me it is one of the most important supplements to take while doing P90X. It is not there to bulk you up, it is to aid in muscle fatigue and soreness. After an intense weight training workout, your muscles are depleted of glycogen. The sugar in the recovery drink is immediately absorbed into the muscles to replenish those glycogen stores which your muscles need to rebuild and repair themselves after a hard weight training workout. Now, you can substitue another shake for the P90X Recovery Drink although I don’t suggest it. If you decide to go this route you want about 4:1 ratio shake.

My Review
Ok so I purchased P90X back on October 2007.  I was pretty excited, I have always been atheletic and in decent shape. I am not one of those guys thats like to go to the gym and workout.  I had never even tried a workout dvd prior to P90X becasue I did not see myself staying with it or doing the same video everyday (BORING!).  The P90X commercial was WAY different. This came with 12 workouts! and Diet guide. What hooked me was the layout of the program.  You will have a week to week program to follow with specific dvd’s, which after 3 weeks you change to a much needed Recovery Week, only to start a entirely new work out phase and different workouts.  Now, the workouts are EXTREME as the title suggest. Each day you can figure about one hour plus to devote to P90X. In the classic version you will have 3 days of resistance workouts and added to thes are the ab workouts. The resistance workouts are about an hour and the ab one is 16 minutes. What I learned to do was split the resistance workout from the ab workout and do them completely seperatly. I did my workouts first thing in the morning and the ab workout later in the day. Best part of P90X is there is no thought process, just follow the layout and your GTG! It can also be taylored to any way you may want to do it.  It has 3 different versions to follow.  Classic,  Doubles and Lean.  Easy enough right.

Below I will just give a breif review of each dvd.

Chest & Back: This is push and pull to the max…you will go from push ups to pull-ups and by using different hand positions and grips to work different muscles.  This workout is really tuff, once I got finished (or so I thought) Tony says ” we are gonna do that whole thing agan”  WHAT !
Plyometrics: (Jump Training) “The Mother of All P90X Workouts! And I kid you not.  I could not even do this workout until I completed my 1st 90 days in the lean version( where Cardio X replaces Plyometrics) .  Like Tony Says” Get your little bucker my friend, cause this one works ya”  When I did start to do it I had to really pace myself slowly to keep from feeling nuasous, but after a few times I was able to Bring it!
Shoulders And Arms: Man o Man I look forward to this workout. It focuses on the “Glamour Muscles” Shoulder Biceps and Triceps.  You will be working these muscles hard on this day. You will do a set of 3 exercise in the order of Shoulder, Biceps then Triceps and then repeat those same moves. 5 Sets
Yoga X: For me I have a really hard time with Yoga, for those of you who do not think yoga will work ya, you are dead wrong.  This is one of the hardest workouts for me and you will be sweating your butt off.
Legs & Back: Time for legs, as if I havent used them all week in the other workouts, now its time to Bring it.  In the workout you will go from leg, to calve to pull-ups.  Good Luck with the wall squats.
Kenpo X: Kempo is fun fun fun. You’ll be done with this workout before ya know it.  From punching to kicking Karate style, fun packed workout right here.
X Stretch: This is mainly used on your recovery weeks but is also your 7th day workout (or you can chose to rest)
Core Synergistics: Synergistics is working mutiple muscles at the same time. This is another really tuff workout for me.  You are using your core muscles in every move from pushups to squats and lunges.
Chest Shoulders and Triceps:  Back to shoulders and triceps. I enjoy all of the non cardio days and this one is another one of my favorites, you will doing push ups in so many forms on this day while blasting those tricep muscles as well.
Back and Biceps:  Just what it says…Time to blast those biceps, move after move after move, and your break from biceps is pull ups.  By the end of this workout you will attempting 1 arm pushup and plyo push ups…Oh Ya Babay!!
Cardio X: Another fun cardio workout. This incorporates all the other cario workouts in 1. You’ll start with Yoga, then move to Kenpo, Plyo, and finish with Core.  This is the shortest P90X workout at 43 minutes, but its a huge calorie burn.
Ab Ripper X:  As Tony says “I HATE IT, BUT I LOVE IT”

Each workout has a warm-up phase and cool down phase, which are critical to your sucess…
PS Dont forget the P90X Recovery Drink.

P90X – 90 Days Completed

My P90X Completion of the “Classic Version”

So my 90 days are completed. I have to say that I am happy with my results, however I wish I could have stuck the diet better.  Here is my measurements after 90 days of the Classic Version.

Weight Waist Hips Chest Thigh Calf Bicep Body Fat %
 192 lbs  37″  40″  40″  25″  15″  12.25″  18 %
 179 lbs  32″   36″  39″  21.5″  14.25″  12.75″  12 %

I will be starting again on May 12th 2009.  My goal is to get below or at 10% body fat, which means I will have to stick to the diet.   Feel free to get your Team Beachbody Account and we can do it together. You can get your FREE account here.

-Here is my transfomation video, keep in mind that in this video my results are from when I started for the first time doing P90X. The above stats in yellow are just from this round of 90 days.

P90X – Day 59 – Shoulder and Arms – Ab Ripper X

Day 59 0f 90
Shoulders & Arms with Ab Ripper X

This is one of my favorite workouts, you work shoulders, biceps then triceps and repeat.  Tony even has a bonus round in this workout which I usually skip do to time.  Feels good to workout your arms hard, maybe thats what i like about this routine. Ab Ripper X is still very tough but I am able to raise my arms during the exercises for more intensity. And of course the Recovery Drink is MONEY!

P90X – Day 57 Chest and Back

Chest & Back
Day 57 of 90

Today was the start of my final Phase, Phase 3.  I’m pretty pumped up about it.  Starting your final phase your first week is the same as your first overall week in P90X.  Phase 3 is where muscle confusion will go into high gear.  This phase is 4 weeks and a recovery, thats 1 week longer than the previous phases.  Today I did Chest and back, this is the first time I’ve done this workout sice week 3.  And I can say it’s totally different, In my 3rd week I was hitting about 8-10 pushups per exercise, today I was hitting 17-20 per exercise.  Thats a big deal to me because I have always had difficulty doing pushups.  Right now I’m sipping down my recovery drink….yummy.

Take Care,
Rob Humphrey

Continuing My Fitness Journey

This Journey begins actually on my 2nd Round of P90X.  I started February 9th 2009.  I’m doing P90X Classic version (modified) .

Here is my starting Statistics prior to starting this round of P90X.

Weight Waist Hips Chest Thigh Calf Bicep Body Fat %
